Glad you asked! You will hear the term counseling, psychotherapy, therapy, mental health counseling, behavioral health counseling, etc. Essentially, they are similar as they work with healing and helping a person. However, there are differences which we could go into detail. Mainly, I use the term counselor for several reasons…it feels less “clinical” and more real. In my practice, I mainly use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Person-Centered Therapy; and Solution Focused Therapy.
It’s my belief that I meet you where you are at the moment. I don’t force or pressure you into thinking my way. It’s not my job to tell you what to do or how to do it. That isn’t the job of a counselor. Although, it may be nice sometimes….right? I honor your time and I seek to provide you a safe place to process the events/situations /issues that will be helpful in obtaining your goal.
Note: I cannot prescribe medications
